NJFID

To obtain a New Jersey Firearms ID (NJFID) you must complete an application with the state of New Jersey and your local Police Department. To get your NJFID you will need to go through the New Jersey State Police Firearms Application & Registration System (FARS) first. If you are a first time Firearms Identification card applicant, you will need to make an appointment to get fingerprinted (instructions for this will be provided in the conformation section of the FARS application page). Failure to get fingerprinted will result in your application being deleted from the FARS system automatically, and it will then be necessary to re-apply.

Along with a FARS application and getting fingerprinted, you will also need your local law enforcements Originating Agency Identifier (ORI) Number. The ORI number is a unique number designated to your local police department or state agency. When filling out a FARS form you will need to enter the ORI number of the local department/agency that is responsible for the residence area licensing type you need.

During the FARS application process you will need to list references including their phone number and email. After the application is submitted you will need to advise the references of a questionnaire that will be sent to their email which they must answer in a timely manner. A delay in the references response will result in delays of the application process.

Please note that any errors in the application process will result in the application being denied, and a re-submission of the application will be required.
